About the directory and the questionnaire

The Hagiography Society wants to help its members learn about, and stay in touch with, others who share similar interests. To this end, the Society publishes a directory of all members. An entirely new directory appears every three to four years, with complete updates every year in-between, and is sent to all members of the Society.

The directory includes not only names, addresses, and phone numbers, but also information about each member's recent publications and current areas of research. Publication and research information appears in a bibliography, which is arranged by subject area. In order to make the directory more useful to members, we are using a system that uses a standardized system to (attempt to) classify all researchers' projects and publications by subject area.

We try to make the directory as useful and specific as possible. So if, for instance, you want to know who is working on "gender issues in saints' legends in France," the directory can tell you what has recently been published in that area, and who is working in that area right now.

In order to keep the directory as up-to-date as possible, we ask that new members send us information on their current projects and recent publications when they join the Society. We also ask that every member send us an update on their work every year.

To make this as easy as possible, we make available a questionnaire. Please take some time download one now, and then fill it out and email it to Secretary-Treasurer Amy Ogden (avo2n AT virginia.edu). If necessary, you may mail a copy to her at P.O. Box 400770, University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA 22904-4770, USA.

Even if you do not want to join the Hagiography Society at this time, we would be delighted to receive a questionnaire from you. We will list your information in the next edition of the directory.
